Math Educator, Instructional Coach & Curriculum Developer
Empowering teachers & students to understand and enjoy mathematics

Philosophy & Approach
Halle Kananack is a highly experienced and enthusiastic educator with a 20-year background in teaching math and a decade of coaching fellow teachers.
With wide-ranging experience as a teacher and instructional coach, Halle's proven approach of prioritizing reasoning and problem solving fosters genuine math understanding in both teachers and students, K-12 and beyond.
At the core of Halle’s approach is leveraging the logical, interrelated, and highly visual nature of mathematics, and the inherent power of the human brain to contemplate numbers, quantity, and patterns.
Halle collaborates with teachers & administrators to facilitate student-centered instruction, which fosters engagement, confidence and authentic thinking.
Learning becomes long-lasting when we ground lessons in big ideas and the relationships between concepts, AND create space for students to explore the math together, make mistakes, and work from their own understanding.
High leverage instructional strategies at the core of Halle's teaching and coaching include:
-
Math models (manipulatives & visuals) are valuable tools for reasoning that foster authentic understanding & independent problem solving, and grow with the students over the years
-
Math talk empowers students to work out their understanding, forge connections between concepts, and learn with peers
-
Math games, routines, & activities motivate students, harness their innate problem solving abilities, and make learning fun!
